5 Tips to Stay Healthy This Summer

It’s our favorite time of year! Summer is the time of long days, bright colors and sunshine. All the best parts about summer makes for the perfect conditions to keep your health strong. While you can enjoy relaxing in your hammock, take time to challenge yourself to healthy lifestyle choices. There’s no better time than now to choose health!


1. Stay Colorful

Everything is in full bloom this summer and that means the best produce is likely just minutes away from wherever you are. There’s no better time to eat healthy, as fruits and vegetables are going to taste phenomenal! To maintain a healthy diet, all of your plates should be colorful with fruits and vegetables. The more colors you have on your plate, the better variety of vitamins and minerals your body is getting. Eating fruits and vegetables will help you to keep from getting hungry and will give your body a variety of nutrients. 2. Make a Day

The days are longer which means there’s more time for fun. Make the most of the extra daylight this summer by getting outside to enjoy the weather. You’ll keep your body happy and healthy with the extra steps.


3. Pick a New Hobby

There are hobbies the summer has to offer that simply can’t be matched in any other season in the Midwest. Find an activity that can get your heart pumping in more ways than one. Activities that have fantastic cardiovascular benefits include swimming, biking and running.


4. Join a Group

Having a group with similar interests and health goals can help you to stay focused on your health goals this summer. There are kayaking clubs, running groups and bicycling groups. They will provide accountability to a healthy lifestyle. Being a part of groups like this is fantastic for your mental health as well. 5. Don’t Say No to H20

It’s summer and that means it’s time to drink up. You’re staying active or increasing your activity level and that means you need to stay hydrated. You should be drinking your body weight in .5 ounces. So if you weigh 200 pounds, you should be drinking 100 ounces of water each day. In the summer, you are sweating more and your body is going to require even more water. Add some of that fresh summer fruit to the water to ramp up the flavor!
