Get to Know Blake Hardy

When Blake was in high school he had an inkling he wanted to do something medical related but was not sure exactly what that would be. He also had the desire to play college football. Oddly enough, in the process of visiting with a college coach, Blake said that he had an interest in health care and sports medicine. The coach mentioned that he had players with similar interests that wanted to pursue their career in physical therapy. Blake thought that sounded great to him, he just had to figure out what physical therapy was! After doing some research, Blake observed and discovered that physical therapy was the right choice for him.

Blake followed his football dreams and academic interests in college. He started at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA and then pursued his future at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. He was fortunate to be accepted to Des Moines University and continued his education there. The day after graduating from Des Moines University in June of 1995, Blake got married to his wife, Kerri. She was in school for physical therapy along with Blake so they had a very busy week, to say the least!

They started their careers at the hospital in Marshalltown, IA. Blake was a staff therapist there for 7 years and then proceeded to be director of rehabilitation services for 5 years. Towards the end of their journey there, Blake was starting to feel like it was time for a change. He wanted to face new challenges and continue to grow and learn. Around that time was when Mike Burggraaf had spoken with him about coming on board as a partner. Blake knew this seemed like a perfect fit. However, to go from a salaried, very comfortable job that he had been at for years, to starting from scratch in a new town was a daunting task. Blake admitted, “It was scary at times, but you get through that initial fear period and begin to see all the possibilities for business growth and realize what an incredible profession we have. But also how fun and challenging it is to figure out how to win every day and keep a certain hunger to make that happen.” Blake loves being with Core Physical Therapy and enjoys building relationships with patients! He has an extensive past, and Core PT is lucky to have him. Stop in and say hi to Blake sometime!
