Employee Spotlight: Ellen Majewski

Raised in small-town Iowa, Ellen’s passion for sports began early on. She lived and breathed basketball and was positive she would be the first female player in the NBA. Throughout high school, her love for basketball remained but science courses also began to spark her interest. A local physical therapist allowed her to observe their practice during the summer months, and since then, Ellen was hooked. She knew this career would be the perfect combination of her passions and interests and was excited about pursuing it.

After graduating from North Butler High School in 2005, Ellen was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. During her stretch with the Mavericks, she sustained her fair share of injuries and underwent rehab many times for healing. With this, her interest in health sciences and human functioning only grew. In 2009, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and immediately started Des Moines University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Early on in physical therapy school, you are questioned about your setting and population preferences. No surprise here, the answer for her was consistently sports rehab and athletes. She found that the clinical rotations opened her eyes, mind and heart to so many other possibilities. From experiences at a veteran’s hospital to school-based pediatrics, Ellen knew she needed and wanted a greater variety. To her surprise, later she would find this and so much more at Core Physical Therapy.

Ellen is a firm believer in the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.” When she was on her second to last clinical rotation, Core announced they were hiring. She mentioned this to her clinical instructor and her reply was simple, “You have to apply there; trust me!” From the second Ellen walked into the door for her interview, she knew Core was the perfect match for her.

In May of 2012, she graduated with distinction from Des Moines University with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and began her position with Core that July. She later, in 2017, became a partner at the practice. Ellen quotes, “I believe our treatment approach and philosophy, our team, and our patients are unrivaled. I am truly thankful and blessed to have found a career within an organization that I love.”

Ellen is a physical therapist who loves the challenge of restoring her patients’ function and movement. She loves the science behind all of it and loves being around people that are willing to put the effort in. She hopes she can be the change that, in turn, changes their lives. What a joy waking up every day and doing something you’re truly passionate about. We think it’s easy to say Ellen loves what she does, and we are happy to have her here at Core Physical Therapy.
