Employee Spotlight: Meet Noel

Noel grew up in the Des Moines Metro area, graduating from Waukee High School in 2011. She attended Central College, where she graduated cum laude with degrees in both Athletic Training and Spanish. After graduating and returning to Des Moines, Noel attended and obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy from her dream school, Des Moines University.

Noel’s passion for physical therapy developed while she was in high school. She was fascinated by the human body and the intricacies of how it all worked together. Because of this, she volunteered as a sports team manager and student athletic trainer, where she was able to begin learning how to evaluate minor injuries and help rehabilitate athletes. She also aspired to work one-on-one with people to help them improve their lives, so physical therapy seemed like the perfect option.

Her passion for Core Physical Therapy came from a much more personal space. During her undergraduate education, her grandfather was ill. He was in a lot of pain, losing weight and no one seemed to have answers. While in an unhealthy state, he developed serious back pain and was referred to the only PT clinic in Adel at the time, Core! Immediately, his physical therapist began to look at his body as a whole, treating all of the connective tissue surrounding his abdomen and lower back. This had a tremendous impact on his entire body. His pain lessened, he began to gain weight and he was able to return to his normal life. With the encouragement of her grandfather, Noel reached out to the Core clinic and began building a relationship with them. She was fascinated by how differently they approached physical therapy, looking at the body as a whole, the cause of pain or issue, and not just where a patient “felt” pain. While in PT school, Noel was fortunate to participate in an internship at Core, beginning in January of 2018, and was offered a position with the company prior to her completion. She obviously accepted and began practicing in the West Des Moines office as a clinician in June of 2018.

Since joining the Core Physical Therapy Team, Noel has continued to grow in her love for serving others and helping them function to the best of their abilities. She has been amazed by the different relationships she has made and the progress she’s been able to help her patients make. Her passions continue to grow in regards to helping the body heal as a whole and researching different intervention strategies to make the biggest overall impact on her patients’ health.

In addition to graduating and joining the Core team in 2018, Noel also married her husband, Aaron, who works as an actuary in Des Moines. They celebrated their marriage by fulfilling Noel’s bucket list item of traveling to Hawaii. While there, they fell in love with the gorgeous scenery and traveled around the entire island to find waterfalls, rainforests and beautiful beaches. Together, they enjoy time spent traveling, with friends and family, and drinking lots of coffee.

In her free time, you’ll find Noel with family, grabbing coffee with friends, mentoring young women in the community, cheering on the Chiefs or just snuggling with her nieces.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I’m a huge singer. In high school, I was in every choir possible, and I sang in choir all through college. I now get my fix singing as a worship leader at my church (and in the car/shower).

What is your favorite part of your job?

Providing hope to the people who need it the most. I have so many patients who come in saying they’ve tried everything and lost hope of being able to enjoy their lives. I love helping them regain control over their body and watching the changes that can be made. I also enjoy getting to meet new people and learn about their passions and values.

What is a dream vacation or trip?

The next place on my bucket list is London, but I’d never turn down a trip to the beach.

What three items must your refrigerator contain?

Plain Greek yogurt, white wine and cheese (the cheese is for my husband- he’s from Wisconsin and takes his cheese very seriously)

What is your WHY?

To use the passions and gifts I’ve been given to improve the lives of those I come in contact with

What is your favorite pastime?

I have a “reading nook” in the front of my house with huge windows, a big chair and beautiful plants. I like to cuddle up in my chair and read a good book or listen to a podcast while sipping a cup of coffee.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Long walks through TJ Maxx and HomeGoods

Favorite Book you've read or gifted to people the most?

Eat Dirt by Dr. Josh Axe. I’m very passionate about how diet affects our body and have seen this effect firsthand in my own life.
